Golf Monthly - Editor's Choice 2026!

Distance and forgiveness are the name of the game with the 201 MKII, all wrapped up in a sleek, tour-inspired shape. It combines the benefits of a game-improvement iron with the blade length, sole, and topline designed for better ballstrikers.

Expect cleaner turf interaction, a butter-esque feel, raging speeds, and a confidence-inspiring profile at address.

The durable 17-4 cast body, paired with the new 17-4 variable thickness face, equals next-level performance and a more satisfying feel compared to the 101 MKII. The progressive weight system optimizes launch, spin, and trajectory, providing precise distance gapping and improved control.

What others are saying

1 of 3

Customers praised the excellent feel, forgiveness, and distance gains of 5-10 yards. "The feel at impact, the sound, the build quality...are all exactly what I was hoping for." However, some noted concerns about durability with clubs breaking at the hosel, finish marking quickly, and inconsistent customer service with delayed shipping times.

Best investment made

Had these irons for close to 2 months now and before I was about a 25 handicap. Now with these in my bag along with a few tweaks in my swing, I’ve managed to shave down to a 11 handicap shooting in the mid 80s comfortably. Absolutely worth the price.

These clubs are just FUN!

To start off, I am a 27 ish hcp 46 year old golfer and have only been playing for about 2 years. I have the KBS Tour stiff shafts with midsize grips. This set is the single best upgrade I ever could have bought. Today was the first time I have been able to get out to play with them and instead of doing the right thing and take them to the range, I went full send. I only played 9 holes due to time constraints, but good night! These clubs are just FUN! They feel amazing, even on off center strikes. I played irons only and left the front 9 with a score of 40. Par on this course was a 32- there are no par 5s and that is why I played this course. Of the 40 shots, 21 were putts- (that’s where I show my true hcp lol). Either way, it was only 3 three putts. That leaves 19 shots over 9 holes. 44% GIR, 1 sand shot and zero lost balls! Not too shabby Takomo! Well done, you have a customer for many years to come.

Sounds like the new clubs passed the test! A pretty great first date. 🔥

Welcome to Team Takomo!

Takomo Irons Earned Their Spot

Read all the reviews and videos giving strong recommendations on Takomo irons. So I did online club fitting, and finally placed an order for the 201 MKII with upgraded graphite shafts in regular. Took about 6 weeks for delivery since these were upgraded. I've got approximately 15 rounds on the clubs now. First thoughts, the finish on Takomo irons is not the same quality as my Callaway Rogue Pro irons. The Callaway's, after 6 years still look like new, with a high polished chrome look. Takomo, is a brushed finish and shows stains easily, but cleans up well. As for performance, I wasn't that impressed initially. I actually thought I just wasted $750 on new irons I didn't really need. Now after the 15 rounds, I've come to appreciate how the irons perform. I've gained 10 yards in the 8 to 5 iron and even using the 4 wood off the tee on short par fours and long par threes. I'm still getting used to the 9 iron and pitching wedge, but really made some nice tight shots within 10 feet. I'm a 10 handicap and turn 70 years old in two weeks, Yesterday was a better day for me as I shot a 3 over 75 with 3 putting 2 holes. I hit some greens in regulation I don't normally make. Still working out the alignment on my new Taylormade putter. But for the Takomo irons, these have definitely earned a spot in my bag. I can now highly recommend them!

3 Broken in 4 Months

4, 7, 8 broke within 4 months all at the hosel. 5 week wait for replacement would be fine if 2 clubs didn't break while waiting for the 1st one to be replaced. Prior Callaway set never showed any signs of failure.

We're really sorry to hear about your experience. That's certainly not the standard we aim for.

A replacement set is already on its way to you, and we're hopeful this one will perform exactly as it should. Thanks for your patience throughout the process, and we sincerely hope you won't experience any further issues.

THE. REAL. DEAL.

Just switched from a set of Mizuno’s, the gold standard as far as I’m concerned, and shot my best round in 3 years. I smoked 4 iron off multiple tees, hit 6 and 7 iron onto the green into a 25 mph wind, and finished the last 2 holes with two 9 irons that were directly at the stick.

These things are the real deal. Pull the trigger. The feel off the face and the sexy trajectory will make you swoon.

Awe inspiring

Incredible feel. Well worth the wait. Just played my first round with them and every shot was pure. The only problem was going long on greens. Whole new set of distances to figure out. My playing partner hit one shot with the 7 iron and was asking where to get a set. Then telling my dad about the round, he’s looking into a set. I used Takomos online fitting and seemed to work out perfect. Big fan, can’t wait to hit all future iron shots. Thank you Takomo.

Finally got my 201 MKII irons a little over a

Finally got my 201 MKII irons a little over a month ago. It took 6 weeks to get them in. Gotta say they are nice. I like the feel, forgiveness, and the looks of them. Been hitting them on the range to dial them in and played a few rounds with them and already my handicap is lowering. They replaced my cobra irons that I had forever. The only down side is my 7 iron already broke at the hosel. So now I play a mixed match Takomo/Cobra set until I can get it fixed. Don’t know if it has warranty. If so it would be much appreciated if you can reach out to me.

Hi Phil!

We appreciate your feedback and sorry for the broken 7-iron.

Breakages are always unfortunate and happen from time to time even for the best. Please check your email, since manufacturing defects are of course covered by our warranty policy.

Club head snapped off the shaft on the second shot

I recently purchased the 201 mark II’s as my first purchase from takomo. My mate had the OG 101s and I loved them.
When they arrived I was so impressed with the look of these irons and the delivery was very quick, HOWEVER…….
My first range session with the clubs I took my 6 iron out and hit my first shot, this felt amazing. I hit my second shot and the club head snaps off and flys down the golf range.
I’m absolutely terrified that the rest of my clubs are going to be just as poor quality.
I have contacted the customer support who take an absolute age to get back to you each time you message them, they told me they would replace the club but it would take upwards of 5 weeks!!! If I bought the brand new set again they would be here in a few days.
Awful customer service so far and I’m absolutely gutted.

Ouch! We’re really sorry to hear about what happened! Hitting your first 6‑iron only to have it snap is not the experience we want anyone to have, and we completely understand why you’d be frustrated.

We understand the wait may be frustrating, but it's essential to ensure the quality of your replacement, so you can get back to swinging with confidence without any worries.

We also hear you on the response times, and that’s on us, we’re working hard to improve that so our customers aren’t left hanging. Your experience matters, and we want to make it right.

Takomo 201MKII

I just purchased the heads only of the 201 MKII and shafted them myself. I moved from Callaway Apex CB19. When I took them out for my first hit. I couldn't believe the soft feel and control I got from the irons. The ball flight you can get from the irons is really good. I would highly recommend buying the 201 MKII irons.
My only regret is that I should have got the lie angle adjusted when I purchased them.

Look Class and feel great

Irons look absolutely class in the bag! Have only had the opportunity to test these out at the range so far but boy did I enjoy my time. Previous to these I was using 30+ year old hand-me-downs and were looking for my first proper club purchase, and settled on the 201s (even though im new to the game I wanted something that would get better with me). They feel amazing when stroke pure and can tell they give me a lot of control (when im able to do it). Delivered in just over a week and price was a no brainer.

Brian Bros Influence

I first learned about Takomo clubs from Brian Bros Golf. At first, I was curious… then curious turned into hours of watching YouTube reviews. After seeing enough honest feedback and real-world testing, I finally decided to pull the trigger and get the Takomo 201s.

And man—no regrets.

The first thing I noticed when I hit the ball was how buttery the feel was. Pure strikes feel soft and solid at the same time, and even the slightly off-center hits are surprisingly forgiving. Honestly, I haven't owned or hit a set of irons that felt this easy to hit. They just inspire confidence when you're standing over the ball.

I was a bit worried at first about not getting fitted for them, but after playing with the 201s, those worries completely disappeared. The clubs feel natural, balanced, and consistent—like they were meant to be in my hands.

I'm genuinely glad I got these irons. The Takomo 201s exceeded my expectations, and they've made the game more enjoyable for me. If you're on the fence and doing the same YouTube deep dive I did—this might be your sign. 😄

I gambled and I won!!!

I bought these irons as a challenge to myself, I have been playing super game improvement irons for about three years now and I thought my skill had improved enough to move up to player's irons. I had a big team tournament coming up and I bought the 201 Mark ii, straight "off the shelf". Not only did I order them late, but took a gamble and when they came in, I put them in my bag and got on the plane with them. I only had one shot to try them before the first round of the tournament a 9-hole practice round. I absolutely love these irons, not only do they feel great, they are absolutely forgiving and they also look incredible. I had tons of compliments on the way they looked, and they must have been good for me too, since I won 2/3 of my matches and we won the team tournament. These clubs are the best irons I have had so far, I am a 12 handicap, and they make me feel confident about my shots from the PW all the way to the 4 irons (that is a new feeling).

Spud Approved & Pure through the Carnoustie Wind

I've been waiting to get these onto the turf at Carnoustie, and they did not disappoint.
First off, the unboxing experience was hijacked by 'Spud', my 8-year-old golf nut. He gave them a full inspection (especially the 4-iron) and the verdict was immediate: 'Spud Approved.
I'm coming from a set of P770s, and honestly, the feel on the Takomo 201MkIIs is just better. It's softer, more 'pure' off the face, and gives you that feedback you want.
The real standout for me is the 4-iron. Living on the coast, I need a flight that can handle the wind. I was hitting low, piercing baby draws right through the Carnoustie breeze. It's an absolute rocket launcher but still feels workable.
If you are on the fence, get off it. These look incredible in the bag (even my son is jealous) and perform even better.
UPDATE:
Just had to add this photo from the course today. This was an 8-iron into a firm links green at Carnoustie.
Usually, you expect some release, but look at the pitch mark—it landed and stopped dead on a dime. The stopping power on these scoring irons is ridiculous. Impressive stuff.

These irons are it!

Bought my Takomo 201 MKII 4-pw set at a great price. Far below what I would have paid for a mainstream iron set. I was skeptical as I'd never swung a Takomo club prior to receiving them. From the time I opened the box all the way through swinging each club, I was blown away. These clubs look great, feel great, swing great! I bought these to replace a game improvement iron set that I have had since 2011. That's a long time for an iron set. My game had gotten stagnant and no more improvement for years. I stepped away from golf for a few years and got back into it summer of '25. Decided to treat myself to a new set. Takomo was on my radar but I had a few others on my list as well. I must have watched a thousand videos on YouTube and other social media outlets to exhaustion. Giving a fair view of all irons on my list. I decided to give the Takomos a shot since they seemed to be the most compliant to my game. I even ran my list past a few AI platforms describing what I was looking for and where my game is. I came to the conclusion that Takomo was the way to go. And with them offering a full refund on return if I didn't like them trying out the7 iron, I knew there was no risk here. After just hitting a few balls with the 7 iron, I knew I could toss the box and not worry about asking for a refund. By far the best golf purchase I have made by a mile! I gained distance and some workability without sacrificing some of the forgiveness I still need as I work on my game as a mid-handicapper. I probably gained somewhere near 10 yards with these irons over my old Adam's iron set. The best part was adding workability to them. I can now shape shots a little. Once I get more swings in them I'm sure I can get some more consistency with that. The one thing I will say is that I am getting consistent distances and don't lose much distance on slight mishits. Which is exactly what I was looking for in stepping into new irons! Can't sing enough praises on these irons. Now I'm looking at getting the wedges to go along with them. And who knows, maybe the driver while I'm at updating my bag!

I’m a very senior golfer looking for user friendly irons. Looks like I’d need the 101MKII but I don’t see an option on here to purchase heads only in that model.
