Iron 101 $489.00 USD
Product description

It’s long. It’s straight. The game-improvement iron that looks like a blade.

Let’s cut the BS, golf is hard. We’ve engineered this thing to make it easier. When you whip up a cocktail of premium materials, optimized weighting, and hollow-body design, you’re left with golf balls exploding off the face and landing where you pointed them. That’s it. That’s all.

The Takomo 101 is designed from durable yet flexible 431-stainless steel. The precision-milled, 1.65-mm-thin face is heat-treated and promotes spin consistency and explosive ball speeds, while the low-perimeter and low-CG weighting promotes consistency.

  • Type: Game-improvement iron.
  • Characteristics: Hollow-body design. Super forgiving, and very long.
  • Design: A longer blade length, thicker top-line, and moderate offset, all while looking like a slick, clean blade.
  • For who: For higher-handicap golfers and those who don’t have a handicap yet.
  • HCP range: 17 and above

What others are saying

Customers praised these game improvement irons for exceptional forgiveness, distance gains of 10-15 yards, and confidence-inspiring looks at an outstanding price point. Most reported immediate improvement and consistent ball striking. However, some noted grip alignment issues, a hollow sound, and concerns about feel compared to forged irons.

I purchased the 101's 2 years ago

I purchased a set of the 101's about a couple years ago in the regular flex and really like them. I hit them well and last year I added mid size grips to them and love them even more. A great feeling club and I am in my 70's now and still hit them well but am going to order a set with SENIOR FLEX and Mid Size grips... I can't go wrong. I recommend Takomo to all my friends and I have one of my best friends playing them and one of my sons now too... both love them. I highly recommend them... the best club you will find for the money. I got a hole in one 2 years ago with them... my 7th on hole 7 at my course, 145 yards.

Great clubs

These are great clubs for a beginner golfer. They don't feel as good as something forged but that's expected and the forgiveness more than makes up for it.

Only reason this is 4* and not 5* is that the grips are pretty poorly aligned with the club head on my set

We're glad to hear you're enjoying the clubs overall. Sorry to hear about the grip alignment, that's definitely not what we aim for. We'll pass your feedback along to our team as we continue improving our quality control.

Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience!

Golf became much more fun!

I started playing golf 8 months ago and started to outgrow my set of TopFlites. I went in for a fitting and got fitted into a KBS X tour shaft with a Mizuno JPX 925 head. I couldn't justify paying that much for a set of irons as a weekend warrior. Takomo had my shaft and ever since I ordered these clubs, ball striking became more consistent and smoother. I am in love with these irons!

Overall good product

These are my very first set of brand new irons and I have to say I'm extremely happy with the quality, was abit skeptical being a DTC, but after testing the OG 101 7 iron on Tuesday all that faded away.

Only downside was when I ordered my clubs the shafts I ordered were in stock, when checking my order status a week later it said they were out of stock and my order wouldn't be coming when it was meant to, emailed a few times with no answer.

If I genuinely had know there was a MK2 coming out I wouldn't have ordered the OG line up, but I feel like the OG look is just slightly better looking.

Takomo 101

If you are having doubts about ordering these irons I can assure you that they are fantastic. They look awesome, feel great, and have the same forgiveness as my Ping 425. I ordered the 101's with KBS tour lite regular flex shafts which were out of stock when I placed the order. It seem to take forever to get them. Mostly the excitement made it seem that way. I am extremely happy with these irons. I ordered the 101 4-PW 1/2" over and 2° up. My perfect fit. They also came with a Takomo hat and towel which was a nice bonus. There was a huge problem with my order. They weren't the iron size I ordered. Talk about disappointed. I was very upset over the whole ordeal but I didnt want to ship them back and wait again. Well Takomo stepped up to the plate. After we settled the issue with my irons, about 2 weeks went by and a package came in the mail. Low and behold in the box was the 2 wedges, 52 & 56° we had been talking about. Check this out free and clear they even covered the shipping as well. Home Run Takomo. The pics show the darts these things throw. Next you, a driving iron, Thanks Takomo for eeverything.

They are great for the price

The club's perform well I'm a +22 handicap and the can tell the forgiveness but they definitely go further than my other clubs. I was around 155 to about 162 with my 7 iron now it's around 172 to 180 so I will need to relearn my distances. The big issue I ha with the 101's is they sound very tingy almost hollow or empty. They are great none the less.

Impressed by the fast service

Got the custom irons much faster than the promised 8 weeks. The service was top-notch with quick responses from customer support. The irons look stunning and the bonus hat and towel were nice touches.

Haven't tried on the course yet but...

The packaging was fantastic. They arrived in exactly 7 days. They look absolutely beautiful. I took them to the range and I'm hitting them around 10 yards further and MUCH straighter. They are very forgiving.

When I held my old 7 iron and the new Takomo 101 7 iron, just the feel of them made me realize the quality difference. Honestly my old strata's feel like clubs for children in comparison. That sand blasted finish too? Looks really really nice. I can't wait to see how they play on the course but I'm expected backspin to actually be a thing with these. I have a slightly slower swing speed than others because I'm not a good player at all, so I went with the KBS lite standard shafts, what a difference. I actually feel like these clubs are fixing my swing in some ways as I can really feel the heads.

Maybe I'll update this review after I get a round next week, but as of now I couldn't be happier with this purchase.

Impressive results

Since receiving my custom fitted irons, my golfing ability has reached new heights. I am hitting straight and the sound of the club is excellent. With a 218-yard range with the 5 iron and a 130-yard range with the PW, I couldn't be happier.

First Round with Tacomo Irons = Hole in One

I took my new Tacomo Irons out for their first round during a scramble tournament at Four Oaks Country Club in Dracut, MA. On the final hole of the day—hole 9, a par-3 playing 160 yards uphill (adjusted to 175)—I grabbed my 8-iron and stepped up to the tee.

What happened next was surreal.

I hit the purest shot of my life. My teammates and I watched it bounce twice on the green… and then disappear. One of the guys swore he heard it drop. We rushed up to the green, and sure enough—there it was in the cup. My first ever hole-in-one. On my first round with Tacomo Irons.

These clubs are the real deal.

Quality control lacking

Ordered 101's stock option. Arrived very quickly to be fair, taking under 10 days in total to reach me in the UK.

However, the grip alignment on my PW is very poor. I've included pictures to show how misaligned it is. This is really poor, and whilst I acknowledge it's only one club, and the price is a lot lower than big brands, this shouldn't be happening.

The other issue with Takomo is you can't just call them. I'm very wary of companies that only offer Ai bots, or an email option. I now have to wait until they respond to my email, as I have asked if there is anything I can do with the PW (replacement for example).

The irons are beautiful. The price is incredible. I'm just gutted about the quality control, and the lack of communication options with the brand. Hopefully gets resolved quickly

Just purchased the Takomo 101 heads

I paired them with the UST Mamiya Recoil ESX 460 F2 senior shafts.  I played my first round on vacation at PineLakes Golf Course SC. I was amazed how easy I hit the irons and the shots that flew straight and long.

Hitting the ball feels wonderful, there's a nice balance to it. It was able to fly a good distance, which was surprising yet pleasing. The iron was really straightforward to use - a considerable attribute that cannot go unnoticed.

Pleasantly surprised

I investigated a ton before buying, so I knew they were gonna be good, but they blew my expectations. Ive got them for about 5 months now and love everything about them. Good for you Takomo… you've made an amazing product. My dad was testing them today because he's thinking about getting new clubs and he's ordering a set now, he's just figuring out which ones he wants (201, 101t or 101).

First swing success with great comfort

The comfort of these clubs is noticeable right away! Had a set of Taylormade Qi irons and these are so much easier to hit! Love these irons! Buy Takomo irons! You will not regret it!

Exceeded expectations!

Alright breakdown time. I am 6'2, 26 years old, 9 handicap. Been golfing for 3 years. For the past 2 years I've been using Mizuno jpx 919 irons. They were a little small for me. I recieved my Takomo 101s about a week ago. Took about 6 weeks to receive them once ordered but that was expected due to the fact that I customized my set of 101s using the questionnaire fitting tool on the website. I got extended shaft, more upright, thicker grips, stiff shaft. It was worth the wait. These clubs hit beautifully. Being a single digit handicap my main focus is still just hitting it straight so forgiveness is my biggest focus. I can work the ball decently and the 101s allow you to still do it. But if you want to be curving huge slingers 90 degrees then these aren't for you. They are way too forgiving and they somehow always go pretty straight even on mishits. My friend got some swings in during our round as well (he shoots 100+ every round) he usually also plays a massive fade/slice, that's all he knows how to do. He was hitting the 101s beautifully. He was getting a much straighter ball flight and the feel of the clubs on contact as well as the sound is amazing. I would recommend this club for anyone who doesn't want to pay $$$ and would rather pay $$ for the same quality product. If they hold up and last me a couple years I'll upgrade to another takomo set. See you when I'm scratch!!!

Effective upgrade with longer yardage

Switching from my usual Taylor Made 360's to the Iron 101 has been a significant improvement. Although there's a yardage difference of about 15-20 yards that I'm still getting used to, the added distance is appreciated. I've also enjoyed using the larger grips with a 2° offset which offer better control and feel. Just one round in, but so far, it's been a great experience.
